Sculpture

Vessels Project
For the vessels project I made a football that was made out of clay. It was supposed to have holes in it so it could act as a lamp shade but i became pressed for time and forgot to add them.I picked clay for this project because it would be the easiest way to create the unique shape the football. Although I selected the clay to use for the football shape it was still very difficult, I had to almost do a paper mache type creation by wrapping balls of newspaper taped together in a football shape. I f I could redo this project i would try to work on capturing the actual shape of the football because my football was very lop sided.

Visiting Artist
Before Meeting Her: Holsenbeck is an artist who takes old trash and transforms them into works of art, mainly animals. I'd expect her visit tomorrow to be kind of a struggle because she is having to teach us so much in such a little time. The project is gonna be rough since this is a new form of art to all of us. I'm going to attempt to do a polar bear.

After Meeting The Artist:  I met my expectations that I set myself for this project; I didn't feel like this would be terrible but I knew it wouldn't be amazing considering this was my first time attempting such a sculpture. A major problem I had with this project was getting even a general shape out of the wire to use for my bear.

Unconventional Materials
For the unconventional materials project I was assigned to use a fabric book. I did a paper mache type idea by making a 3-D giant bow tie out of cardboard. After creating the base I began to wrap in a patchwork style with the strips of fabric out of the book. I came up with the idea for the bow tie because throughout most of the year I have to dress up for sports, usually complemented by a bow tie. Although I didn't have a say in the material I was using it was new to me and at first I was quite stumped on how to use it. Then I later realized that I didn't just have to use the fabric, I could incorporate it and use it along with another piece like the cardboard in this case.

Relief
For my relief piece I thought the easiest and best way to show off what relief truly was was by using clay. I decided to make a rough design of a pool table with a multi-leveled pool ball. It was nothing fancy, pretty each layer is just another strip of clay that I stacked on top of the one before it. It almost starts to create a pyramid shape as the layers get smaller and smaller. After creating the shapes of clay I painted them like a classic pool table styled theme. However after painting and creating my "masterpiece" it hit me that in real life the number 1 ball in pool isn't actually striped....
