Sculpture Final Exam

Question 1:

This year in Apex Art they switched the teaching style with the "Open Art Room" which instead of telling us to create this item with this material, they gave us an idea and let us run with it. I liked this concept a lot because it allowed kids to grow as an artist and think outside this box more times than most. This gave kids an opportunity to go about art as how they saw it. I believe this style of art programs has worked better this year than the other ways in the past because it gave kids who liked to take a more abstract approach towards an idea. The new "arting" style works better now than ones in the past.

Question 2:

We completed many projects throughout this class. But I think the one that I was able to grow the most from would have to be the Unconventional Materials project. This project was my favorite because it taught me to take something, and use it in a way that it is not intended to be used, allowing me to see the world in a different perspective. I enjoyed this project because it was cool to see not only how innovative I was, but also my classmates with the materials given to us in this project. I hope I can continue to grow as an artist through many more projects like this.

Question 3:
Even though I did not enjoy this project, or complete it for that matter, the project I think I could have grown the most from would have been the wearable art piece. It was fun to see all the cool creations my classmates were able to come up with just by using simple pieces of "junk" laying around the classroom. I would have enjoyed seeing what I was able to come up with had I put any effort into this project. This project was very interesting because like the Unconventional Materials project, it taught the other kids and I how to see and use materials in a different perspective. It's projects like these that keep art interesting and keep wanting us kids to find new ways to accomplish easy tasks.

Question 4:
I don't really know if this count as a technique but the "technique" I enjoyed the most was making the animals out of the wire and plastic bags. I was interesting to see how they went from ugly, rough outlines of the desired animal, to becoming almost what our creature was supposed to look like. I was trying to create a polar bear, and for my first time I'd say I did pretty good. The polar bear looks more like an all white puppy but again it was only my first time so I wasn't expecting it to be perfect. I wish I got another shot at this type of o because I was really into changing my animal from an early gross stage into it's more natural and recognizable stage.
